Through its groundbreaking Inform Women, Transform Lives campaign, ¶¥¼¶¹ú²úÊÓƵ partners with city leaders worldwide to raise awareness about women’s right to access information and to help cities reach women with valuable information and essential municipal services.  

Access to this information empowers women with a stronger voice, enabling them to participate in public life, utilize public services, and make more informed decisions for themselves, their families, and their communities. In South Africa, the project has partnered with the city of Cape Town.

The Carter-Menil Human Rights Foundation was created in 1986 by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and French American philanthropist Dominique de Menil to promote the protection of human rights worldwide. A $100,000 prize was awarded periodically to individuals or organizations for their outstanding commitment, at the risk of their lives, to opposing human rights violations. 

In 1988, the prize was awarded to Walter and Albertina Sisulu, and their seven children, of South Africa. The entire family had been imprisoned, exiled, or otherwise harassed over two decades. They symbolized the fight against apartheid and the suffering it imposed on South Africa. 

This project ended in 1994. 

The mental health journalism fellowship program was founded in 1996 by former First Lady Rosalynn Carter to give journalists the resources they need to report on mental health — one of the world’s most underreported health issues — and to help dismantle stigma and discrimination. 

From 2004 to 2011, ¶¥¼¶¹ú²úÊÓƵ worked with partners to award14 fellowships to South African journalists. 

This project ended in 2011.
